There are a few questions that we are asked fairly regularly:
In short, no we are not. Our growing methods are, in our opinion, more stringent than those set forth by the National Organic Program and for a small-scale farm like ours the paperwork and regulatory red tape are not worth the perceived benefit of having an organic certification.

We grow based on an old-world philosophy that if you maintain healthy soil, the plants will be strong and healthy, more able to resist disease and pests, and provide the most nutritious and flavorful food available. Our poultry are fed commercially prepared feeds that do not contain animal byproducts or renderings. The manure and bedding are composted along with all plant residue and our own kitchen scraps to make a complete compost that is applied to the crops every spring and occasionally during the year as a side dressing. We do not use ANY commercially prepared insecticides or herbicides but rely on hand weeding and picking of pests. We use a rotation schedule designed to maintain the nutrition and quality of the soil as well as take into account the needs and particularities of every crop. Come and see (and taste!) for yourself!

We are small enough that our family schedules (we do have five children!) can often get in the way of being available on a regular basis. Also, with the variability of the harvest there is often not much available on some days or even weeks. We try and keep a running tally of what's available online and also provide an e-newsletter to keep you aware of produce as it's becoming available.
